So give them blood, blood, gallons of the stuff...

(Sorry, I needed a nap. A nice 5hr one). Because I'm anemic and have been trying to supplement with iron, they checked my blood levels after IV placements(I HAD great veins), my hemoglobin level was a 6. They immediately typed me and sent off the order for 2 units. Explains why I was constantly fatigued and winded. So, I had all the fun of pretending like I was at Mystic Falls, waiting on A- and wondering if there was going to be a shortage because it was taking forever.  There is EXTENSIVE testing and paperwork and approvals and red tape that go along with it, even in a rush. So I sat in my recliner, listening to "Drop In the Ocean" and wondering if Ripper Stefan or just regular Damon were going to show up and share a bag with me. They didn't. *Spoilers: Salvatore brothers are dead, Dude.* Hospital Food that Americans are not paying for right now? Not bad, but we'll get to that, because I forgot the most important thing g last time. "Socialist Programs duri...

WTF happened to my toe????

When I was admitted, the nurse took my vitals and asked my history. I told her about September and how sick I was. She asked for more and I told her what I could, detail by detail. I then remembered the cut on my toe. It was really tiny and I thought I got it from knocking it on my counter when I was sick in the bathroom. I had put Neosporin, Vaseline and a large pad around it for cushioning and protection. What I didn't do was replace it, just added to and taped it because you're supposed to keep pressure on a wound(stupid stupid, I know). She took me back in a wheelchair and 5 people came into the room, one was a podiatrist. They sat and unraveled. A smell was there and getting stronger. They all gagged. My toe was hurting and it turned black in front of our eyes. "Just what I thought. Gangrene. You're losing this toe. Does it hurt anywhere else?" "No. Well, There's something in my leg..." "It's turning pink. We can pray, but we can't...

So then what happened...

I made it home, drank some water and after a quick nap, I woke up and rushed to the bathroom where I successfully made it to the potty. Only I didn't LEAVE the potty for the next four days. My dad sleeps a lot, he didn't notice. I was able to call my big sister and she came with pepto bismol, popsicles and everything I'd need for tummy issues. She said if I wasn't any better that we'd go to the emergency room. The next two days I was able to eat sugar free popsicles, Pedialyte, some salt water taffy. Walking was hard, but little by little I could. The ER tested my urine, said my kidneys were dry and gave me 2 bags of fluid in an IV. It was cold and I didn't like the salty smell but I fell asleep. They sent a cab to take me home. The cab driver was really nice and by the time we had introductions out of the way, it was time to walk to my front door. I made it to the front door and went back to sleep.  For the next week my mouth was super wet. I couldn't stop...

An introduction

Hey everyone. I'm Jessica B.  Just Jess or Jessica, please. I am not a "Jessie/Jessy" like I was in HS. Those were my early Jump, Little Children days. I'm 44 years old and live slightly north of Charleston, SC with my dad and my cat, Sammy. I lost my mom a year ago and after 3 years of mind-numbing grief, the tears finally came. So, my story. Well, I've been a type II diabetic for 19 years. My mom noticed my depression, took me to screenings and then when sitting with me and the therapist realized that wasn't it. She asked about thyroid issues because that was a "family thing". Besides the chicken pox and asthmatic bronchitis once a year, I was hardly ever sick. And I mean EVER. There was a thyroid testing event at a James Island Harris Teeter. I was 25 years old and some guy in front of the frozen food section was taking blood samples. He gave me a once over, some fat jokes and then took 3 vials. A week later, the numbers were...not good. So I wen...
